Choose the Right Model
Playcode offers three AI modes at very different price points. Picking the right one for the task is one of the biggest levers you have on your monthly spend.
Three levels, three prices
- Economy: your cheap, fast default. Handles most of what you do day to day.
- Standard: the level most paid work belongs on. Beautiful, detailed design, the cleanest results and the fewest errors.
- Ultra: our most capable model, for the hardest, highest-stakes builds. Highest cost.
Standard and Ultra cost several times more per task than Economy, so you pick them deliberately, not casually. Every model shows a cost meter next to its name in the picker.
Economy is your default
Text tweaks, color and spacing adjustments, small bug fixes, a new section here or there. Anything you would describe as "small" should stay on Economy. It handles most of your day-to-day work without breaking a sweat.
If it feels small, stay on Economy. You will be surprised how far it goes before you need to switch.
Standard for the hard parts
Switch up for the hard stuff:
- Complex interactive components, like image galleries with modal previews or multi-step forms.
- Tricky logic the cheap model would trip over.
- Polish passes on sections you want to feel world-class. Standard consistently produces better visual design and fewer mistakes on difficult tasks, and Ultra goes further again on the hardest ones.
The quality jump is real, and it pays for itself on the right task.
The pro move: switch per task
Experienced users flip levels throughout a session. Do the hard piece on Standard or Ultra, then switch back to Economy for the small edits around it. That way you get world-class output where it counts and keep the bill sane everywhere else.
How to switch
Use the build-quality control in the chat toolbar. It shows the current level ("Economy", "Standard" or "Ultra") and opens the picker when clicked, where you can also choose which model that level uses. To change the level you start on, use Settings → You → AI defaults.
